Here it is Presidents’ Day already. The “winter that wasn’t” is sure flying by. Some of you will be enjoying the luxury of a three-day weekend. Regardless, we hope you’ll take a few minutes to stimulate your mind a bit with our Presidents’ Day madeleines.
Interesting Facts About George Washington
Although Presidents’ Day has been reduced to a mid-winter three-day weekend of sales and getaways, its purpose is to celebrate George Washington (and Abraham Lincoln, also born this month). Some of these interesting facts about George’s early life may surprise you. Thanks to @LearningReviews (Heidi Reina) for posting this.
Presidential Pooches Through History
George Washington had seven dogs and quite an imagination when naming them. Three Staghounds were named: Sweet Lips, Scentwell, and Vulcan. Four Coonhounds: Taster, Tipler, Tipsy, and Drunkard. There must be interesting stories behind those names. Leave a comment and let us know your dog’s name and how it came about.
Before They Were Presidents Series
Did you know Andrew Jackson was a prisoner of war at the age of 15? Or that John Tyler played the fiddle? Little known facts about past U.S. Presidents, where they came from and what they experienced before they became POTUS. Thanks to Mike Bowman @TheQuarterRoll for this one.
Video of the Week
Our video of the week is an animation of past Presidents to a pretty catchy tune. It only goes to 1992, but it’s kind of fun.
